Does a cinema trip have to break the bank?

Autumn is here, and parents all across the country will be thinking of things to do with the family that are not weather-dependent.  Gone are the long summer days when you could just head off and spend a day out together outdoors.  Now a family outing needs a little more thinking ahead, as most of it probably needs to be inside to avoid bad weather or darkness interfering.

So what better than a trip  to the cinema?  Apart from the fact that it just seems so expensive these days that many people don’t even consider it as a potential family outing.  But what many people don’t realise is that there are many ways that you can get cheaper cinema tickets if you do a little bit of advance planning.  Here are 10 ways you can save money on cinema tickets at Odeon cinemas:

  • Odeon’s Family ticket (everyone pays child prices)

If you have a party of four – two or three of which are children – you can cut the cost by purchasing an Odeon family ticket.  All four members of the party will then pay child prices which results in a big saving on the standard adult cinema ticket price.

  • Odeon Kids

On Saturday and Sunday mornings, and during school holidays, Odeon Kids tickets are available for parents with young children ( there is also a version for parents of young babies).  Tickets are available for many of the latest kids movie releases for just £2.50 at most cinemas.

  • Kids Pass

Kids Pass Membership entitles you to 40% off ticket prices.  The discount applies to adult and child tickets, 7 days a week.  At the moment there is a 30 day trial for £1.  Annual Kids Pass membership normally costs £75 but there is currently an offer to join for £39.99 ; which could be well worth it as membership also entitles you to up to 57% off  thousands of family days out, Kids Eat Free at thousands of restaurants nationwide and massive savings on UK family breaks!

  • Book cinema tickets online

It is always worth creating an account with cinemas as this often entitles you to discounts when you book online.  For example a MyODEON account will get you get 10% off tickets when you use it to book online (though just be aware there is often a small booking fee to add on).

  • Limitless/Unlimited Cards

If you are a very regular cinema goer then check what is available for you.  For example Odeon have a Limitless Card and Cineworld an Unlimited Card  which entitle you to go and see any film at any time – as many times as you want to.  The cards cost around £17-20 per month depending where you live.  You can either pay monthly by direct debit or pay it all upfront.

  • Supersaver tickets

If you are able to visit the cinema during weekdays then a Supersaver ticket might be for you.  These tickets are valid Monday to Thursday before 5pm (excluding bank holidays) and offer good discounts for even the latest film releases.

  • Odeon Silver Cinema

The good news is that not all cheap tickets are aimed at the children!   People aged 55 and over can benefit from Odeon’s Silver Cinema offer which entitles them to see a film – and a tea or coffee beforehand – for around £3.00.  Tickets can be booked up to four weeks in advance.

  • Cinema Exhibitors’ Association Card

If you are either currently receiving Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance or are registered blind then you can apply for a CEA card and take a carer with you to the cinema for free.

  • Voucher Cinema Deals

Always check with the major voucher websites to see if there are cinema ticket offers available.  So always check with sites like Voucher Codes and  Groupon to see what might be available.  You may also want to check out gift voucher schemes, for example discounted gift vouchers from companies such as Zeek.

  • Subscriptions and loyalty schemes

Many brands will offer special deals for cinema tickets; so if you subscribe to – or have a loyalty card with – any organisation then it is worth checking the benefits they offer.  For example:

  • The comparison website Compare The Market run the 2 for 1 cinema ticket promotion Meerkat Movies every Tuesday and Wednesday for 12 months from the date you took out a product;
  • Tesco Clubcard holders can exchange vouchers for cinema tickets;
  • Times Plus members can get two for one tickets every weekend;
  • Lloyds Bank’s Club Lloyds offer Vue or Cineworld cinema tickets as one of their rewards
  • O2 priority holders often have ticket offers.

The clear message is that if you have any kind of subscription or loyalty card then do check to make sure you are not missing out on the additional benefits that may exist.
