The UK is enjoying some fabulous weather this summer and it is an ideal opportunity to get out and about. Those of us who are either not going on holiday or who have decided to enjoy a staycation this year will find plenty to do here in the UK!

In this article we suggest ten top attractions of in different parts of the UK that we hope you will be able to enjoy this summer. Check the links for current opening times, prices and whether you need to book in advance.

There are many more attractions out there – so also do your own research – but we have tried to include a variety of different things to do for all the family:

  1. Eden Project, Cornwall The Eden Project is an educational charity that aims to connect people with each other and with the living world, exploring how we can work towards a better future. Nestled in a huge crater in Cornwall you can enjoy the largest rainforest in captivity, stunning plants, and striking contemporary gardens. There are also special exhibitions, summer concerts and exciting year-round family events. Children of all ages will enjoy the zip wire and an inspired range of play areas.
  2. Longleat Safari Park, Wiltshire Take a safari drive – or bus if you prefer – through Longleat to see wonderful animals including giraffes, zebras, rhinoceros, camels, lions, tigers and wolves. There is also the 16th-century Longleat House and grounds, as well as a Main Square with lots of attractions including miniature railway, Adventure Castle playground and Family Farmyard for younger children.
  3. Legoland, Berkshire Legoland is aimed at ages 2-12 and has over 55 interactive rides, shows and attractions for them to enjoy. It offers everything from roller coasters to hands-on Lego building activities as well as an entire Duplo-themed area for toddlers. This year they are running the Legoland Summer of Fun – a Beach Party especially for children with pop music, LEGO® build activities and challenges, a pop up sandy beach and Splash Safari and Drench Towers – the UK’s largest outdoor water play structure.
  4. Warner Brothers Studio Tour, London This is an amazing day out for Harry Potter fans of all ages. Located in Watford – 20 miles north-west of London – it is adjacent to the working film studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made. The Studio Tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two soundstages and a backlot filled with original sets, animatronic creatures and breathtaking special effects. You will see highlights such as Diagon Alley, the Great Hall, Hagrid’s hut and the Gryffindor common room – as well as the original Hogwarts Express steam engine and a recreation of Platform 9 ¾. You will also learn the secrets behind the special effects used in the films.
  5. Bekonscot Model Village & Railway, Buckinghamshire Bekonscot Model Village & Railway is the world’s oldest and original model village. It opened for the first time in 1929 and has a huge model railway, 1.5 acres of well kept gardens and finely detailed model buildings. Bekonscot is a great day out for everyone to see England how it used to be and discover a wonderful little world tucked away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. Bekonscot is operated by the The Roland Callingham Foundation which donates any surplus funds to a number of mainly local charities to support their work in the local area.
  6. Cadbury World, Birmingham, West Midlands At Cadbury World there is fun for all the family!  You will find out about the story of chocolate and be able to shop in the world’s biggest Cadbury shop. The self-guided tour around Cadbury World covers 15 different zones, an exciting 4D adventure, the Crunchie rollercoaster and the African Adventure play area. There are also exciting entertainment shows in the Cadbury World on-site marquee – all included in the standard ticket price.
  7. Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Lancashire One of the UK’s oldest theme parks, Blackpool Pleasure Beach now spreads over 42 acres. It is also home to the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land!  Popular rides include the Avalanche, Big Dipper, Grand National and The Big One – Europe’s tallest roller coaster at 235 feet. You can also experience Pasaje Del Terror – an interactive walk through horror show with live actors in which groups of around 8-10 people embark on a terrifying journey, without any guide, through a labyrinth of hair-raising shocks and surprises. The Hot Ice spectacular ‘Mesmerise’ skating show is another event not to be missed.
  8. National Railway Museum, York This is one of the best free museums in the country!  Highlights include Queen Victoria’s railway carriage, Mallard – once the fastest steam train in the world, a Chinese locomotive and a Japanese bullet train. There is also a model railway, outdoor play area and train-ride simulator. Check the website for a programme of special summer activities and hands-on challenges for every day of the holiday. There is also a sister site in Shildon which has a Stirling Single from 1870 and also family train rides.
  9. Beamish Museum, County Durham Beamish is a world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s & 1940s. It covers 300 acres of rural land and contains reconstructed houses, shops and heritage buildings including a colliery village complete with pit cottages.  New attractions are always being added; the latest include W Smith’s Chemist, JR & D Edis Photographers and St Helen’s Church, Eston. Beamish us full of interactive activities for all the family, and visitors can enjoy travelling around the site by tram.
  10. Crathes Castle and Gardens, Aberdeenshire This magical turreted 16th century castle boasts an intricate maze of turrets, towers, oak panels and painted ceilings. It is set within glorious gardens and also features an Adventure playground, Go Ape tree top course, family trails, children’s quizzes and picnic areas. You will be able to see a rich variety of wildlife along its several trails, including roe deer, red squirrels, woodpeckers, buzzards and herons. Crathes Castle is run by the National Trust in Scotland, a conservation charity that aims to protect and champion Scotland’s natural, built and cultural heritage..
